Cardiff Afghan Gathering: Monday 25 of July 2011

The Cardiff Afghan Gathering took place on Monday 25 July in the Future Inn, Cardiff Bay. This gathering was organised by the staff of the British Red Cross, Edward Anderson, Tara Lowe and David.

Approximately 200 Afghan men, women and children participated in Cardiff Afghan Gathering and supported Afghans unity in Cardiff. In this gathering various organisations including Afghan Action delivered speeches and highlighted the importance of establishing Afghan community in Cardiff to unite the Afghan people and improve the quality of their community’s life.

Yama Wida, the Afghan Action’s Outreach Officer said that ‘Afghan Action is looking for Afghan Advocates and volunteers in Cardiff who will be trained by Afghan Action to run events and activities in Cardiff that are aimed to give first-hand information about the real life of Afghans in Afghanistan – emphasising the positive aspects of Afghanistan and its people in order to change the negative images and perceptions within the UK’.

In the second stage of the gathering, food was served and Afghan music was played. Further talks between the Afghan participants and the representatives of the organisations present took place regarding problems and challenges that Afghan people are facing in Cardiff.
