Ettie Shattock on South West Coastal Walk to Minehead
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
I’m 17 and am hoping to walk the 630 mile coastal path around the south-west of England to raise money for Afghan Action. I took my final International Baccalaureate exams in May and to start my year off before University I want to raise the money to give someone who isn’t as fortunate as I am the chance to learn the trade of carpet weaving and receive lessons in numeracy and literacy.
The path runs from Poole to Minehead and I’ll be camping and using youth hostels along the way, carrying everything I need on my back (including tent, food etc). Once completed, the total height climbed throughout the coastal path is almost four times that of Everest! Although I know it will be extremely challenging I am excited to discover parts of England I haven’t explored yet as well as contributing to the work of the Afghan Action.
