We’ve been running a Sponsor a Trainee programme for young carpet weavers for the past 6 years – and we’ve trained over 450 people to weave, read and write. They’ve also benefited from on-site healthcare and a nourishing midday meal.

On 31 July 2011, we started our new training programme for sewing and clothes-making – starting with 12 people, we’ll train 46 over a two year period.

Every trainee – learning to make clothes or to weave carpets - will be with us for 12 months (not 6 or 9, as before). Each receives an allowance of $45/month plus a midday meal, vocational skills training and education – in literacy and numeracy (if needed), English, ICT and enterprise skills.

There are other costs as well, of course – materials, overheads, management and training expertise and transport.

We are able to provide each of our sponsors with a personal link with a trainee - and that will include a photo and brief profile of the trainee, plus a quarterly progress report.

So what does it cost? £450 for a year – or £37.50 amonth for 12 months. We can also spread the payments over two years (@ £18.75 a month).
