Afghan Action Carpets

Afghan Action’s beautiful handmade carpets are woven using Ghazni sheep’s wool and mainly natural dyes. The wool is bought already spun and we dye it on site in our factory and training school in Karte Se, Kabul. Our looms are upright and usually two or three weavers will be working on the same loom, sometimes on the same carpet, sometimes on two smaller ones.

We weave a mix of traditional and modern designs and styles. Sizes range from small carpets less than 1 square metre to very large carpets up to 12m2. We do fireside and bedroom rugs and runners for halls. Some people hang their carpets on the wall!

We use mainly three traditional designs –

• Kazak (more geometric designs, with abstract)
• Chobi Rang (that means “woody colour”!)
• Khan Mohammedi (the more traditional, red colours)

We also make a range of rugs inspired by modern abstract designs.

DESIGN YOUR OWN CARPET

We can make you a carpet to a specific size, design and style.  If you see a pattern you like – but it’s the wrong shape for your home – please let us know and we’ll get it specially made for you. If you have a pattern you’ve designed yourself, let us see it and we will ask our Master Trainers to interpret it in a coloured drawing – and let you check it’s what you want. We’ll then weave the carpet and deliver it to your home.
